Michelle Zaragoza, LCSW

I am a Latina scholar, Ph.D. Researcher, and Mental Health Therapist.

Michelle Zaragoza, is a Ph.D. Student in the School of Social Welfare at the University of California, Berkeley. Broadly, her research investigates the wide-ranging mental health disparities among Latinx immigrant communities. Her work aims to inform the development of culturally grounded and community-driven pathways of support and policy interventions. Her research interests include: social and structural determinants of mental health; trauma; clinical praxis; and arts-based research. Her background as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker informs a unique perspective that allows her to approach the complex challenges related to Latinx mental health with empathy and insight.

A Commitment to Equity & Social Justice

Trained as a Social Worker to integrate Critical Race Theory into her research and practice, she is strongly dedicated to equity and social justice in every aspect of her work. Whether conducting research, providing therapy to clients, or supervising associate-level clinical social workers, she is committed to addressing systemic marginalization and dismantling racist structures/practices.

Research Interests

Michelle’s research addresses mental health equity among Latinx immigrant communities. She utilizes community-engaged, arts-based, and storytelling methodologies.

Michelle offers Mindfulness and Somatic-Based Mental Health Therapy. She takes a holistic approach to cultivating inner peace, embodying authenticity, and aligning mind, body, and spirit.
